Ontology – domain-specific knowledge representations

With the Institute for Medical Informatics, Statistics and Epidemiology at the University in Leipzig, I am working on foundational research for an Ontology (General Formal Ontology).
Ontologies consist of systematic, coherent, sound and complete representations of knowledge, of concepts and their relations. Foundational research draws on philosophy, cognitive science and linguistics. Applied logic is aimed at the formalization of ontologically basic categories and relations and at meta-logical investigations of axiomatic theories.
Methodological research is directed at principles of conceptual modelling, meta-ontological principles, and ontology architectures. The development of applications aims, for instance, at domain-specific description, management and interoperability of data.
